Did I mention I’m a big fan of tone-on-tone looks?! When you wear an outfit in the same colour or the same shades, I feel it tends to look better. Let me give an example; imagine I’m wearing dark blue jeans and white sneakers with a cream top. Visually, it would look like I cut my body in pieces with a combination of light and dark shades. With the blue printed JGxBench shirt
my outfit looks more like a unity, which favours my body type.
I’ve been working in sales for many years now, so I’ve seen lots of women with many different body types. The one thing they have in common is that 99% of them complain about at least one part of their body. Whether it’s their arms, knees, stomach, legs or ankles, there’s always something they’re not entirely comfortable about. Same for me, I have a long upper body and short legs that I think are a bit too brawny. So there are quite a few items I never wear because I just don’t look good in them, but there are also many ways to make the most of my figure.
As I mentioned earlier, it isn’t only what you wear that counts, but also how you style different colours. My personal rule is: make sure you always combine footwear + trousers + top in the same colour or the same shades. So if I wear dark blue jeans like the one in the pictures I’ll put on a darker top and make the outfit more summery with a pair of white sneakers. However, if I wear a white T-shirt, shoes in shades of black or blue are better. Otherwise the contrast makes my legs look even shorter and that’s not what I want. And I’m talking about trousers here, as those are my favourite items of clothing, but same counts for skirts of course.
I did the trick with all blue and black shades but also if you want to go wild with summer colours, make sure you stay with the same hues. If you’re a big fan of yellow, try to play with pieces in matching tones of the same colour (just watch out with black details, you don’t want to look like a bumblebee). And the same counts for all other colours of the spectrum!
If this tone-on-tone story is a tad boring for your style, don’t forget you can spice things up with loads of accessories. Be creative!
